Gay Men, Queer Friends and Allies! It’s Time to Take Back Your Power!

I’m done putting up with bullies.

I’ve had enough of them. This is your time to SHINE.

This is your time to GET WHAT YOU WANT.

You know… I use to be a band geek, even though I was tone deaf. I couldn’t figure out pitch for the life of me, seriously.

But then I moved to Portland, Oregon in 2012 and met a new friend.

Her name is Vanessa Van Edwards.

Do you know her?

Vanessa teaches people like you and me how to be the most memorable people in the room.

This is your time to be you.

You are the most beautiful person in your universe and I truly believe that.

You see, I thought I was flawed all these years for being gay.

But then Vanessa showed me how to take my power back.

She taught me how to power pose.

Vanessa studies human behavior.

Just like you and me, Vanessa likes and studies people.

She calls herself a “creepy people watcher.”

Isn’t that funny?

I called myself the same when I lived in Las Vegas and walked up and down the strip with my dad.

At least that’s what she told me at Creative Live when I took her class, The Power of Body Language.

I used to feel weak, but then she had me and my friend Sarah smile again.

Vanessa made me strong again.

From the inside out.

Did you see the Pixar Movie called Inside Out? The stuff Vanessa teaches is similar to the characters in that film, like Joy and Sadness!

All those years I felt weak for being gay… Vanessa made me strong again.

I started to dream how I could be just like Vanessa.

You see, we have this powerful tool in our heads. It’s called the reticular activating system.

When you think about what you want, your subconscious figures out how to get it.

You need to think about it all the time. You need to obsess over your goals.

I wanted to be just like Vanessa. I started to obsess over it.

So I emailed Vanessa.

I asked her, “How can I become like you?”

She said, pick your favorite book and coach your friends the information in the book.

… but I wanted to have my own brand. My own image. My own name. I wanted to be the most memorable person in the room, and I waned to teach something that was personal to me. So I asked her how I could teach motivation.

She said, “Do you know Brendon Burchard?”

I said, “No.”

She said, “Do you know Tony Robbins?”

I said, “Yea, my grandfather loves him!”

She said, “Pick one of their books, teach the information to you friends and then get their feedback.”

So that’s exactly what I started to do. (hint: you gotta have mentors and listen to them)

I started teaching positive psychology and body language to my friends.

I didn’t know the vocabulary of body language, but Vanessa made it simple.

I didn’t have to think so hard.

I started to live in my body instead of in my head.

I have a tendency to do that. Do you?

I want you to get up out of your chair right now, put your hands up in the sky and jump up and down for 2 minutes listening to your favorite tunes… blast the music higher! (or wear headphones and shut the bedroom door to jump around and celebrate)

This is a party, friends!

I didn’t know that all you need to do is simply move your body if you want to feel different.

When you power pose, you feel confident. You have confidence hormones in your body called testosterone and it makes you feel happy!

It sounds childish… but it’s true. Somewhere along the line, you and I forgot to power pose and feel good.

I want that to change because life shouldn’t be so hard.

Do you want to feel excited?

Do you want to feel joy?

Do you want to feel love?

It starts in your body. Not your head.

You see, after I broke up with my first boyfriend, Zack, I was sad.

I learned in therapy that I gave all my power to him.

Using positive psychology and body language, I got my power back.

Vanessa inspired me to become an entrepreneur and start my own business.

You know.. like in Shark Tank style.

Vanessa inspired me to live what’s known as the “digital nomad” lifestyle.

Meaning you can work from anywhere and travel the world. You can teach your passion to people all over the world.

I did what all great entrepreneurs do… I hacked my way to be just like her.

I started my own website called Your Success Launch.

I started publishing articles on my blog and sharing them with my friends.

Then I asked Arianna Huffington if I could share my story about breaking up with Zack.

Arianna loved my story and she said “yes!”

Before she said yes, I applied at least 10 times to the Huffington Post.

I was thrilled when my articles finally got accepted.

It felt so good to get my voice out in the public world in writing.

You see, the thing about success is that it takes conscious persistence and discipline.

You need to stay focused and concentrated.

It’s not easy. You have to love what you do.

That’s what me and Vanessa have in common.

We LOVE people.

Do you love people?

We sure do. How much do you love people?

People are pretty good, wouldn’t you say?

I felt flawed for being gay, but when I learned about positive psychology in college, my whole world changed.

I started consciously deciding what I wanted. Instead of sitting on the couch waiting for my dreams to come true, Vanessa inspired me to get up and move. She inspired me to pick up my laptop, go to coffee shops and park benches to write imaginary letters to my future readers and clients.

I felt sad when Zack left me, but entrepreneurship got my mind off my sadness when I worked on my business.

To keep my mind busy, I wrote and read books like Man’s Search for Meaning by Victor Frankel.

That book made me realize I gotta have hope.

Just like what Harvey Milk said. You gotta have and give other people hope.

My mission is to be that guy.

I want to give people hope.

I want your dreams to come true.

What are your dreams?

Will you make my dreams come true?

I want Vanessa Van Edwards to be a NEW YORK TIMES BEST-SELLING AUTHOR.

I want her to be just as famous as Amy Cuddy.

Vanessa changed my life, and I want to return the favor.

Can you help me out?

I want you to preorder two copies of her book Captivate by December 31st at 11:59 Pacific Standard Time.

I want you to buy one copy for yourself and one copy for a friend.

Vanessa also teaches people how to win friends and influence people.

She’s the modern Dale Carnegie of the 21st Century. She gives powerless people a voice again from the inside out… just like the Pixar film… but even cooler because she loves queer people and their allies :-)

Will you please head over to Amazon to preorder her book, Captivate?

Wanna know more about the book?

Head over to The Science of People to read all about her upcoming book!

You see, Vanessa is obsessed with people. She wants to know what makes them tick. Like a coo-coo clock.

Lol, I just thought about the clock in my grandma’s house.

Speaking of which, after I learned the power of body language, I reconnected with my core family members.

My mom and my grandma in San Francisco, both of whom I’ve had difficult relationships with, but I think the power of body language helped mend our relationships.

I’m growing to love my mom again, something that was really hard for me to do after my parent’s divorce in 2002.

I haven’t shared this publically on my blog… but my mom is a recovering alcoholic. She’s 10 years sober and just turned 60. After I attend Lewis Howes’ School of Greatness Academy at the World Domination Summit in 2016, I called my mom to tell her that I love her.

Lewis is the next Tony Robbins, but with a soft, kind and powerful voice.

His coaching inspired me to tell my mom “I love you,” something I haven’t said it in more than 10 years.

Cool things begin to happen when you surround yourself with successful people.

That’s my friend Chris Guillebeau, the founder of the World Domination Summit here in Portland.

That’s me and Walter Mischel who did the famous Marshmellow test… at his book signing at Powells Bookstore in Portland, Oregon.

That’s me and my rad friend, Toto Vo. He taught me about EDM music and concerts down in Florida where my sister lives.

Speaking of which, last year… I got to visit my sister in Florida.

She lives near someone else who inspires me, his name is Tony Robbins. Do you know him?

He’s got a great documentary on Netflix called, “I’m not your guru.”

I hope I can take you to one of his seminars one day… that will be so cool if you and I can attend :-) I know it’ll happen.

Back to my sister!

Yes, I rekindled my relationship with my sister last year.

You see, my sister dated a homophobic guy when I was a senior in college. It made me really sad to know my sister would date someone who doesn’t like gay boys and men.

Homophobic men were the reason I was scared to come out of the closet.

But Vanessa gave me my power back. I want Vanessa to give you, YOUR power back.

But back to my sister real quick… here’s a picture of me and my sister visiting each other in Boca Raton, Florida.

My sister is so pretty, isn’t she?

I think she could be a super star… actually, I think she already is and she doesn’t even know it yet.

But back to you… I want YOU to be a super star.

Because you’re my hero.

Vanessa even introduced me to several of her queer friends… and they’re so friendly! You should hang out with them on Facebook sometime:

Are you ready to sport your power pose in 2017?

Are you ready lift others up and become the most memorable person in the room?

…just like Vanessa has helped me with?

I want you to be the most memorable person in the room.

It all starts by reading people. You need to look at people’s faces. You can’t look down at the ground anymore. You gotta look people in the eye and read their micro-expressions.

Can you do that?

It’s actually fun, and I think you’ll like it too.

It may feel awkward at first, but trust me… you get used to it. I know you will :-) I believe in you.

Do you want to buy a copy of Vanessa’s book?

Now’s your chance:

Will you join me and Vanessa in preordering her book, Captivate?

Vanessa and I want you to be the most memorable person in the room.

All you need to do is change the way you think.

Your friend,

PS – Registration for the Mighty Mental Empowerment Group Coaching Program is Officially open for registration. Enrollment closes on December 31st at 11 am Pacific Standard Time. Will you join me?

PPS – I really did scoop ice cream on the Las Vegas strip when I lived there with my dad… see?!

I worked until 1-am on the Las Vegas strip to serve ice cream to drunks back in 2006 but I always kept a smile on my face.

You gotta do whatever it takes to make your dreams come true. I’ve got big dreams for 2017 and I can’t wait to have you along for the ride.

Remember what my dear inspiration Marianne Williamson says, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.”

It’s your time my friend… make 2017 the best year yet. You deserve it. I’m here for you.

Your friend,
